Marathon running has increased in America among non-elite runners. The purpose of this study was to examine the training methods of non-elite runners. 115 participants, 58 male and 57 female completed a survey regarding their training practices. Results determined that males ran faster (P= .000) and more miles while training for a marathon (P = .015) and when not training (P = .020) than women. While these findings may provide a better understanding of non-elite runners, further research should be conducted to better understand them. This study provided an overview of the training practices of non-elite marathon runners.
